Overview:

The Pride Apex Rapid Portable Mobility Scooter is classic example of big features in a small package. It’s lightweight and portable but offers the kind of comfort and range you’d expect from a much larger scooter.

Size, maneuverability, & ride:

The Pride Apex Rapid Portable Mobility Scooter is compact but the comfort quality of the ride it delivers is anything but small. It features Comfort-Trac front and rear independent suspension designed to give a smooth and comfortable ride, eliminating jolts from rough surfaces and even small drops like kerbs. Its 4-wheel design makes it stable and a relatively small turning radius makes it maneuverable even in tight spaces.

Comfort & accessibility:

Comfort is where this model shines; few if any portable mobility scooters equal it for smooth ride and sheer driving pleasure. In addition to the Comfort-Trac suspension, the fully padded seat and back cushion the rider and add a feel of luxury. There’s plenty of leg room for ease getting on and off, and the tiller features an easy-grip wheel-like steering control.

Battery & capacity:

You can go up to 18 miles between charges on this scooter, even when carrying full capacity. A lighted battery charges keeps you clear on how far you can go, and the battery can be charged on-board or separately. It takes just under 11 hours to fully charge the battery, which at over 13 kg is heavier than most portable scooter batteries.

Portability:

This scooter uses a “feather touch” mechanism to break down into five parts, the heaviest of which weighs close to 18 kg. The disassembled scooter can be transported in the boot of a standard size car.

The bottom line:

If you’re looking for a mobility device that offers the portability of a small scooter but the comfort and luxury of a large model, the Pride Apex Rapid Portable Mobility Scooter is for you.

  1. I’ve owned my pride apex rapid for about a year now, and have had 2 previous mobility scooters, it’s by far the best. It fits in the boot of even small cars, is nimble enough to get around inside most shops, has great weight carrying capacity and range, small enough to be allowed on busses and trains, has comfortable ride due to it’s coil sprung suspension, is easy to disassemble even for my friends who aren’t familiar with the procedure. I like the fact that the charging point is high up on the tiller so you don’t have to bend down to plug in, and the batteries can be charged off board as well. The kerb light is a useful feature in the dark. When dog sitting I’ve trained the dog to trot alongside and it’s even agile enough to easily slalom through the tight turns of the park gate easily. Having a built in pocket on the back of the seat is handy to stow items in, although I also use an over-seat bag for high viz and stick carrying.

I did a lot of research before deciding on this scooter to eliminate the minus points of my previous ones (one wasn’t powerful enough for steep hills, the other was too big and cumbersome), and it truly does pack everything you could possibly need into one very small and useful package. I highly reccomend it to anyone.
